Lola

This was filmed in the mid-teens and titled as both "Lola" and "Without A Soul".

It was based upon a book by Owen Davis.

I found this one an engaging page-turner.

The story concerns a young girl who suffers an unfortunate death.

Luckily (?), her father the inventor has discovered a way to revive the recently deceased.
He applies his invention on his daughter.

The "post-Victorian", "nice girl" Lola now becomes a wretched excuse for a human being.

The transformation of the personality of the main character is handled well as is the reactions to her of those around her.

In the end, Lola faces death again. This time her father rethinks his decision.

Although the film is gone, the copy of the book I got was a "photoplay" one.
It had stills of the film. I especially got a bang out of the one entitled "Doctor Barnhelm perfects his machine for restoring animation" because of the crazy gadgetry in the background.
